From Portland past Multnomah Falls to the coast: Haystack Rock rises from the beach at Cannon Beach, seals lie on the rocks below the Yaquina Head lighthouse near Newport, and at Bandon sea stacks stand in the surf beside the dunes. Then inland to Crater Lake, the deepest lake in the US, deep blue in the crater of a volcano. Bend has the high desert and lava fields; Hood River the gorge and Mount Hood.
