The trip in short
Los Angeles first: Hollywood, the boardwalk of Venice Beach and the Getty. Down the coast to San Diego, with the seals of La Jolla and the gardens and museums of Balboa Park. Then inland to Palm Springs, its mid-century houses and the tramway up Mount San Jacinto, and on to Joshua Tree, where the strange trees stand among round boulders under a sky full of stars.
