The trip in short
Boston's Freedom Trail first, then up the coast of Maine: lighthouses and lobster rolls in Portland, and Acadia at Bar Harbor, where Cadillac Mountain catches the first sun. Inland, the Kancamagus Highway crosses the White Mountains of New Hampshire, and Vermont has covered bridges, maple syrup and Stowe. The Berkshires are a last stop before Harvard and Boston. In late September and October the forests turn red and gold: the finest of the autumn trips in the Northeast. With a week at sea to Canada first: cruise to Canada and New England.
