The Mother Road, from the sign on Adams Street in Chicago to the pier in Santa Monica: almost 4,000 km through eight states. Past Lincoln's Springfield, the Gateway Arch in St. Louis and the Blue Whale of Catoosa, by the Cadillac Ranch at Amarillo to the adobe of Santa Fe. From Flagstaff the Grand Canyon is an hour and a half away, and on Route 66 in Arizona the old road winds over the hills through Oatman, where wild burros walk the street.
